On October 21, 2016, the Mustangs set out against the Mifflin Huskies at home. The Mustangs celebrated their senior football players, cheerleaders, and marching band members along with recognizing the midget football players.
An exciting game in the end, the competition between the two teams started out slowly. In the first quarter, the Huskies succeeded in scoring the first touchdown of the game, bringing in the field goal and bringing the score to 0-7. As the second quarter began, flags were thrown, both teams penalized for personal fouls, holding fouls, and illegal procedures. A pass from quarterback Dom Salinetro to number 22, Terrance Quaker, brought in the Mustang's first touchdown. The boys kept a hold of the ball, trying to no avail to run the ball into the end zone. Kicker number 81, Jake Quaker, scored the Mustangs a field goal, though, bringing the score up to 9-7. With a fighting stance, the Huskies came right back, scoring two more touchdowns before the end of the quarter. Salinetro made another amazing pass to number 15, Cameron May, scoring West Perry another touchdown, also. They scored a two-point conversion, bringing the score to 17-21 by the end of the first half of the game.
After the Mifflin Marching Band's show, a Star Trek/Star Wars themed performance, the boys came out with fire in their eyes. The Huskies were the first to score in the third quarter, but with a minute and a half left on the clock, number 88, Gabe Puchalsky ran in a West Perry touchdown. West Perry tried for another two-point conversion, but missed out. Soon after in the fourth quarter, Salinetro and May teamed up again to bring the ball into the end zone. A five yard penalty was called against the Mustangs for a delay in game procedure, bringing them back before attempting their next two-point conversion. Terrance Quaker caught the ball, giving the Mustangs a three point lead at 31-28. Gabe Puchalsky scored once more, paired nicely with a successful kick by Jake Quaker. The Huskies scored one more time, bringing in the first and last touchdowns of the game. Both teams fought hard to score again, penalties upon penalties thrown against each team.
In the end, the Mustangs won 38-35, their second win in a row. With a new fire in their attitude, the boys are ready to take on Shippensburg away on the 28. Come out and enjoy the energy that was present at Friday's game. The stands were filled with enthusiasm and the boys on the sidelines were giddy with pride, high-fiving and hugging as the game continued. It certainly was a sight to see! Congratulations, boys- keep it up!
