Miss Miller

Have you ever wondered what it’d be like to fulfill your dream job? Miss Miller, first year English teacher at West Perry High School tells us her story.
Born and raised in the mountains of New Bloomfield and Blain PA, Miss Miller claims she never wants to move out. If she ever moved, the farthest away she would travel is Cumberland County because it is just right outside of Perry County.
Miss Miller’s first job was at True Value, by Karn’s in New Bloomfield. She decided at a very young age that she wanted to become a teacher. When she was in kindergarten, Miss Miller would pretend to be a teacher to her little brother and stuffed animals in the basement.
Her first inspiration was her 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Monn, who made learning fun, and shared a passion for reading . Miss Miller was further inspired by her 9th and 10th grade teachers Mr. Grippin and Mr. Long. Mr. Grippin inspired her because he had a lot of fun activities involved with reading and writing. Mr. Long inspired Miss MiIler because he pushed her as a student; helped her think harder. She started to gather her teaching supplies her freshman year in college.
When Miss Miller got the call from Superintendent Dr. O’Brien, she says, “I was just ecstatic. Couldn’t stop crying tears of happiness.” Miss Miller exclaimed, "Oh my goodness, I got my dream job!” Her parents were just as excited as she was.
A fascinating fact is she only had two weeks to do what teachers take all summer to do. To get her room prepared for the first day of school, she started off by doing her bulletin boards, followed by her desk, the student desks, and completed by decorating the classroom to make it feel welcoming for her students.
Miss Miller loves creative writing and reading. She plans to pass along her passion for these things to her new students. She can’t wait to teach at the same high school she attended and work side-by-side with the teachers that taught her.
Miss Miller said she is “thrilled” that her first year will be teaching freshmen and giving them a good start to their final years of high school. She is overjoyed about her new job, and cannot wait to see what her first year as a teacher holds.
