- Gothic- Gothic is similar to the horror genre, but has less jump scares and more of an eerie feel. The style relies on the writing, not just the spooky situation. This genre is a perfect excuse to include mystery, romance, mad men, and ghosts all together. It is a refreshing look at horror; so if you enjoy reading and writing horror, try this uncommon sub-genre instead.
- Splatter Punk- Splatter Punk is very similar to gothic, but includes as much gore as humanly possible. Fantastic suspense and great imagery make this subgenre a diamond in the ruff. It may not be appropriate for school, but it would be an interesting sub-genre to try to write if you are interested.
- Slipstream- Slipstream is simply a genre that entails you take a mainstream and popular idea, but add a new and unexpected element to it. Plot twists and satire are extremely appreciated in this sub-genre. It can be mixed with any other genre, including horror!
