In a world where discrimination is a problem, I decided to look into research pertaining to blonde intelligence. Blondes are very commonly referred to as “dumb blondes”, but I wanted to examine what studies have to say about this stereotype. In a study done by Jay Zagorsky at Ohio State University, it was found that white women with naturally blonde hair had an IQ about 3 points higher than women with another colored hair. And although this stereotype is typically pointed to women, the study was also conducted with men. Zagorsky found that naturally blonde haired men had IQs within few points of men with other colors of hair.
Another study done by Stanford University shows that there is no connection between hair color and intelligence. David Kingsley conducted a study on mice, since they have nearly identical genes to humans. He found that the hair color was determined based on whether a gene was turned “on” or “off.” Not only with intelligence, but he found that there was no correlation between hair color and any other part of the body, such as eye color.
You better think twice next time before you call somebody a “dumb blonde”!
