Faced with the last game of their season, the West Perry football players went out against the Northern Polar Bears. The game started out with a spectacular fireworks show and a large flag spanning the field during the Star Spangled Banner. All fans were entranced by the patriotic entertainment.
After the Polar Bears encountered a ten yard holding penalty, they quickly bounced back and brought in the first touchdown of the game. They received the ball again, brought down by Terrance Quaker, but minutes later scored again. Fired up, the Mustangs were ready to fight back. Joe Reisinger, number 82, ran the ball for the first touchdown, five minutes on the clock for the first quarter. Northern took advantage of multiple penalties against the Mustangs, a Polar Bear catching an impressive twenty yard throw into the end zone. The second quarter began with another Northern touchdown, but Terrance Quaker, with forty-three seconds left on the clock, ran an amazing sixty-two yard length in to the end zone. On edge, both teams battled in the last seconds of the first half, continuously intercepting the ball from one another. The first half of the game closed with a score of 13-28.
West Perry's Mustang Marching band performed during half-time, their last show before competing at the Atlantic Coast Champion's on Saturday, November 5 at West Shore. Best of luck to them! During the third quarter, Northern kicked themselves a field goal, raising their score to 31 points. Mustang Joe Reisinger, though, again showed his might. With seven minutes on the clock, Reisinger ran a seventy-nine yard length in to the end zone. The second half of the game continued in a back-in-forth fashion, the Mustang touchdown soon followed by two more by the Polar Bears. The Polar Bears scored their last touchdown during the fourth quarter, the ball heatedly fought over between both teams. With a little over two minutes left in the game, Mustang senior number 14, Nate Salinetro, scored West Perry's final touchdown of the game.
With a final score of 27-52, the West Perry Mustang football team ended their season with pride. They ended their losing streak and performed above all of the fans' expectations. Congratulations boys, next year will be even better!
