December is a month filled with preparing for the holiday seasons. There are many holidays this time of the year. Christmas is the most well known, but there are others.
Christmas: December 25th~ The celebration of God’s son Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem. Most common images shows the event which happened in a barn, where Jesus lay in a manger, just first born. He is surrounded with wise men bearing gifts, angels, his parents Joseph and Mary, and shepherds. Celebrated through telling this story, gift giving, and a feast.
Hanukkah: Starts December 24th and ends January 1st. A Jewish festival to commemorate the the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Symbolised by the menorah; having nine branches and holding eight candles.
Kwanzaa: December 26th to January 1st. Held by most African Americans to celebrate their cultural heritage and traditions. Most people celebrating hold a feast and give gifts. This holiday first begun in 1966 and 1967.
New Years: January 1st. Celebrates the first day of the Gregorian calendar. Celebrated often with fireworks, gatherings in cities, champagne, and a pork with sauerkraut meal to symbolize luck.
Chinese New Year: Between January 21st and February 20th. One of the most important holidays of Chinese tradition. THe colors of this holiday are red and gold; gold representing wealth and red representing luck.
