Kyle Berringer performed a few of his pieces at open mic night at the Blain Hotel on Wednesday, October 19. The Perry County Council of the Arts sponsors nights like these throughout the year to showcase local talent. Here's one of his amazing poems:
The color of intoxication trickled down my skin like the rain on our shoes
Never have I thought, I of all people, could be so caught up in the moment
The color of your eyes condensed me, the desire loomed over me
I wanted to disappear so badly
To slip into the dimension of my own skin in bone, which I normally took refuge in
But not this time
This was real
You were really standing next to me
And I still couldn’t think of a thing to say
And this was really my downfall, my final descent into my own insanity
I turned to the profile of your face and got lost in it’s architecture
Wondering how such an intricate being could be here
With me
I could tell you could see me but I couldn’t tell if you were uncomfortable
Let’s assume your heart underwent the same attack mine did
The color of passion
We bathed in it
Burning our skin, we smiled together
Into your eyes I went, we are one
And I still couldn’t think of a thing to say
But I didn’t really have to
The color of intoxication trickled down my skin like the rain on our shoes
Never have I thought, I of all people, could be so caught up in the moment
The color of your eyes condensed me, the desire loomed over me
I wanted to disappear so badly
To slip into the dimension of my own skin in bone, which I normally took refuge in
