On September 23, 2016 the West Perry Varsity Football team played against the Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils. It was an exciting night for Mustang fans, started off by a pre-show performance by the Mustang Marching Band.
The first quarter started off not much unlike the past games, a touchdown brought in by the Blue Devils with eight minutes on the clock. Their kicker got them the extra point, bringing the score to 0-7. Penalties are thrown against both teams during the first quarter, including pass interference by the Blue Devils and personal fouls against the Mustangs. Halfway through the second quarter, Greencastle brought the ball in for yet another touchdown and kick. The score rose to 0-14, but the Mustangs were out to fight. With major teamwork among the boys, the moved the ball down the field. A successful pass to number 82, Joe Resienger, in the end zone became the Mustangs first touchdown of the game. The kick was no good, but the Mustangs were soon in control of the ball again. Number 15, Cameron May, lead West Perry to their second touchdown. The home side's cheers were loud as the boys completed a successful two-point conversion, bringing the score a tie of 14-14. Greencastle fought back, scoring yet another touchdown with a kick in two, ending the second quarter with a score of 14-21. After an interstellar performance by the Greencastle Marching Band during the halftime show, the third quarter commenced with neither team scoring. The Mustangs fought hard to keep the Blue Devils out of the end zone, blocking their attempt of a field goal with three minutes left on the clock. The Blue Devils came back, though, at the beginning of the fourth quarter with a touchdown and kick, bringing the score to 14-21. Not long after, number 22, Terrence Quaker, ran the ball in for a Mustang touchdown. Number 81, Jake Quaker, kicked the ball in for a good extra point, the score up to 21-28, the Mustangs not far behind. Penalties were thrown against the Blue Devils multiple times as they fought down the field. Their fight was worth when they scored yet again, bringing the score to 21-35, where it didn't move for the remainder of the game. Though the Mustangs lost 21-35, this game showed much more potential than any of the other ones. The boys fought hard and ended the game with three touchdowns under their belt. All the boys worked hard, making it hard to pick any particular stand-outs. Shout-outs to Joe Reseinger, the Puchalsky boys, the Salinetro boys, the Quaker boys, Dave Duran, and Jon Negley, among many other Mustangs. Come out this Friday, September 30, to Big Spring High School to support the boys! |
