AFS (American Field Service) is an organisation that wants to change the world by sharing cultures. For over 100 years, AFS has sent and received students from all around the world. If you want to be a part of an exchange, keep reading, because I will tell you how you can make your dream possible.
There are different lengths to choose from in the program. You can go for a year, semester, the summer, or for only two weeks. There is something for everyone. Something to think about is the price. Fortunately, there are lots of possibilities for scholarships. Annually, $3 million is awarded to help students see the world. The prizes go from $7,500 to $16,250 , which is a lot of money. There is one scholarship that stands out, the Speedwell Susquehanna Valley Scholarship. It’s a full, merit-based scholarship to study abroad for a year in a non-English speaking country. This scholarship is only available to students who live or go to high school within the Susquehanna Valley area in Pennsylvania. This qualifies even you, the one reading this.
Even if you don’t feel like going abroad, you can still get to know a new culture. All you have to do is host a student! You can be a part of letting somebody get to know the USA! Every year, AFS struggles to find homes in time for each person that wants to come to the US. I am an example of this problem. I only found out who my family was three days before I left. You could make a difference.
